A project manager supports an educational innovation initiative that develops and tests pilots using educational technology. The role sits within the service area for Education & Student Affairs, in the team Teacher Support & Quality Assurance. There is a close working relationship with the program manager for educational innovation (functional reporting) and with the department manager for organizational and HR matters (organizational reporting).
The initiative, DRIVE, uses technology (EdTech) to foster innovation in education across five strategic themes: AI in education; e-assessment and technology-enabled assessment approaches; learning analytics; flexibilization of learning resources and pathways; and virtualization, including learning experiences that go beyond existing on-campus resources (such as XR/VR, innovative lab education and gamification).
Pilots are initiated by multidisciplinary teams that include educational advisors, IT specialists and educators. These pilots require structured project management to ensure timely delivery, alignment with stakeholders and measurable impact. This position addresses the gap between subject-matter expertise and the project management capability needed to execute complex innovation projects.
Core responsibilities
The position supports one pilot through hands-on project management while also strengthening project execution across additional pilots through process guidance and coaching. The role is divided into three core areas:
1. Project management: one pilot project (0.6 FTE)
The project manager provides hands-on project management for a single pilot project, ensuring objectives are achieved on time and within scope. Responsibilities include guiding the project team, dividing tasks and responsibilities, structuring project activities, defining milestones, and managing timelines, risks and dependencies. The role facilitates collaboration among educators, developers, researchers and support staff, and monitors progress by tracking deliverables, resource allocation and adherence to budget expectations, with regular reporting to the initiative leadership. In addition, the project manager contributes to evaluation and scaling by drafting evaluation guidelines, analyzing pilot results and supporting plans for broader implementation. The role also develops and executes a strategy to attract and retain teacher participation in the pilot.
2. Process guidance and coaching (four additional projects, 0.2 FTE)
The project manager provides process guidance to the leads of four additional pilot projects. This includes helping project leads define clear goals, scope, deliverables and governance structures, organizing and facilitating sessions to improve project planning, risk management and decision-making, and encouraging consistency and cross-project learning across the portfolio of pilots. Coaching focuses on practical project management skills so educational advisors can manage their projects independently over time.
3. Program-level contributions
To strengthen the initiative as a whole, the project manager reflects with the DRIVE team on improvements to how the program works and how it is organized.
Work is performed from the organization’s site in Eindhoven; travel and collaboration within the multidisciplinary program context is expected as part of the role.

- Understanding of governance and decision-making processes in academic or public-sector environments
